Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are coming under fire from Mike Sardina Jr., the real-life son of the man portrayed by Jackman in the upcoming film Song Sung Blue. Sardina Jr. has publicly lashed out at the actors and the production team, accusing them of misrepresenting his father’s life and erasing him and his sister from the story. In emotional posts and interviews, he described the situation as deeply hurtful, claiming the movie presents a version of events that does not reflect his family’s reality.
According to Sardina Jr., he and his sister Angelina were brought on only as paid consultants and had little to no influence over how their father or family was depicted on screen. He says they were not meaningfully consulted during the creative process and were never contacted directly by Jackman or Hudson. Despite the film being based on a real family’s life, Sardina Jr. alleges that promotional interviews and media coverage completely ignore the existence of his father’s children, which he feels strips away an essential part of his father’s story and legacy.
The situation reportedly became even more uncomfortable at the film’s premiere, where Sardina Jr. and his sister were invited but allegedly instructed not to speak with the cast or the press. He claims this reinforced the feeling that they were being sidelined while others profited from their family’s experiences. Sardina Jr. has not ruled out legal action against the studio and those involved, saying he wants accountability and what he describes as “retribution” for the way his family has been treated.
Despite the controversy, Song Sung Blue has received significant attention, including award-season buzz and a Golden Globe nomination for Kate Hudson. However, Sardina Jr. insists that no critical acclaim can make up for what he sees as a painful and inaccurate portrayal of his father’s life—one that he believes should have included the voices of the people who knew him best.
