Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce officially tied the knot in a spectacular ceremony at New York City’s Madison Square Garden—and the celebrity chosen to officiate their wedding surprised many fans.
Hollywood actor and comedian Adam Sandler guided the superstar couple through their vows during the ceremony on Friday, July 3, 2026. A representative for Swift confirmed both the marriage and Sandler’s role as officiant.
Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Chose Adam Sandler
Although Sandler may initially appear to be an unexpected choice, he has personal connections with both Swift and Kelce.
Kelce worked with the actor on the 2025 comedy Happy Gilmore 2, in which the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made an appearance. Sandler later praised Kelce publicly, describing him as both a talented performer and a good person.
The comedian has also spoken warmly about Swift and her kindness toward his family. Swift previously interacted with Sandler and his daughters, Sadie and Sunny, at the 2023 premiere of her Eras Tour concert film. These connections reportedly developed into genuine friendships, making Sandler’s important role in the ceremony more meaningful.
Madison Square Garden Transformed for the Wedding
Madison Square Garden was transformed from one of the world’s most famous entertainment arenas into an elaborate private wedding venue.
The celebration reportedly included approximately 1,000 guests, bringing together prominent figures from music, film, television and professional sports. Streets surrounding the arena were restricted as extensive security measures were introduced to protect the couple and their guests.
Following the ceremony, screens outside the venue displayed the playful message “JUST&T MARRIED!”, combining the first initials of Taylor and Travis. No official wedding photographs of the couple were immediately released.
Family Members Received Special Roles
Rather than selecting a large traditional wedding party, Swift and Kelce gave the main ceremonial roles to their brothers.
Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s older brother and former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce acted as best man. According to Swift’s representative, the two brothers were the only official members of the wedding party.
Both the bride and groom wore custom Dior designs created for the occasion. Swift’s haute couture bridal gown was designed by Jonathan Anderson, who also created Kelce’s wedding look.
A Major New Chapter in Their Relationship
Swift and Kelce’s relationship first captured widespread public attention in 2023 after Kelce discussed attempting to meet the singer during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City.
Their relationship later became public as Swift attended several Chiefs games and Kelce supported her international tour appearances. Their marriage at Madison Square Garden marks the latest chapter in a highly publicized romance that has connected the worlds of music and professional football.
While the enormous venue and celebrity guest list created a grand spectacle, the selection of close friends and family for the ceremony’s most important roles added a personal element to one of the year’s most closely watched weddings.
